Danny Ray Wood, 54, of Columbia died peacefully Sunday, July 20, 2008 at his home.  Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. until the time service at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Parkade Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Cook officiating.  Cremation will follow.  Danny was born August 2, 1953 to Donald Ray and Billie June (Bostic) Wood.  Dan is survived by his mother Billie Wood of Ozark, MO, wife Kim of Columbia, two sons Clint (Stacey) Wood of Nixa, MO, Travis (Paula) Wood of Ozark, MO, one stepson Paul (Kalyn) Durr of Grinnell, IA, one brother Roy Steven Wood of Ozark, MO, one sister Connie (Merlin) Thompson of Brown City, MI as well as six grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his father Donald Ray Wood.  Dan began working on the University of Missouri campus in 1991 in the Environmental Health & Safety Department.  In 1999, he transferred to University of Missouri Health Care as the Safety Coordinator and was in that position until his death.  Dan was actively involved in the safety, hazardous materials & waste, and emergency preparedness programs for the entire health system.  Better known to employees as "Safety Dan", he was responsible for putting programs in place to protect the facilities, people, and equipment of University of Missouri Health Care.  Dan was also involved for several years in community emergency planning.  Dan was a very loyal employee and extremely dedicated to his job.  He will be greatly missed.

    Danny was my patient in the SEU. He was so kind, never complained, and was greatly loved by each of us. We miss him and know that your hearts are heavy. May God comfort you and give you peace.

    I was often working in the SEU when Dan would come in. Was there ever a time when he didn’t smile and have a thoughtful word? I don’t remember one. No matter how he felt, he would smile and ask how you were. He was a wonderful man and it was a pleasure to get to know him, even for a short while. We will all miss him.

    Ted and I will always remember Dan’s enthusiasm in cleaning out labs when we worked together at Environmental Health & Safety. Dan would be in such a hurry to get everything done, he would leave vehicle doors open and engine running! With such fond memories, Dan will be with us always.     I worked with Dan. He was a great guy. I have missed seeing him since I retired in November 2004. I was the safety officer at Columbia Regional. It was obvious that Dan really loved his family. He was also devoted to keeping the University a safe institution. He will be missed.

    I worked with Dan for many years and know he’ll be missed by all the people who knew him and his family. Dan was always smiling and cheerful and I’ll miss him. My sympathy to his family.

    Kim, I am Dannys cousin in Ariz. It has been years since Ive seen Danny however Aunt Billie always let us know what was going on with him. I was surprised to see that he was in safety and health, such a small career field, and I do the exact same job he did! I remember vacations when Uncle Ray and Aunt Billie would bring the family to visit in Az. That’s the memories I have of Danny- he was always happy and smiling back then too! I am so sorry for the loss of such a wonderful man and hope that his memories will help carry you through this difficult time. God Bless you and the family.
