Harry Evans

Harry Joe Evans, Jr., 53, passed away May 25, 2003 in Overland Park, KS. He was born May 28, 1949 in Port Arthur, TX to Harry and Verna Evans. He graduated from Wichita South High School and was especially proud of his alma mater, Kansas State University where he graduated with a civil engineering degree in 1971. He married his college sweetheart, Patricia Papon on May 27, 1972 and they moved to the Dallas area 31 years ago. He received his Master’s Degree in Business in 1992. Joe was active in his community, and was a Cub Scout Master, Scout Master, and Explorer leader in the Boy Scouts for many years. He joined the Masonic Fraternity at James A. Smith Lodge, Farmer’s Branch, TX where he was a Past Master and Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Order of DeMolay. He was also a 32 degree Dallas Scottish Rite Mason, Past District Deputy Grand Master, a member of the Knight of St. Andrew and a member of the Scottish Rite 21st Degree Team. Honors he received as a Mason include Golden Trowel Recipient and an Honorary member of the DeMolay Legion of Honor. He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren as is survived by: his wife, Patti; sons, Michael Evans, Allen, TX, Brian Evans, Seattle, WA; daughter, Nicole Evans, a student at Texas A&M. Also surviving are his daughter-in-law, Liz and Aimee Evans; grandchildren Joshua and Natalie Evans; parents, Harry and Verna Evans (Topeka, KS); sister, Gail Padilla of Topeka; and nieces and nephews. Joe had a great love for his nation and those that served our country. He was known for writing poems every year on Veteran’s Day and enjoyed personally thanking every veteran he knew. He had been published twice. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to James A. Smith lodge, his daughters college fund, or the American Heart Association.
