Helen Brooks

Helen Ann Brooks of Kansas City, Missouri passed away peacefully on June 1, 2008. Her family and friends have been very supportive throughout her extended illness.

A memorial gathering will be held 1-3PM on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Heartland Cremation and Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO 64133.

She is survived, in Kansas City, by her husband Robert E. (Bob) Brooks and son, John. Her very close and loving family in Maryville, MO. includes Dr. Robert and (sister) Winifred Dunshee; beloved niece Debbie Dunshee and great niece, Beth. In Independence, Donald G. and Dawn R. Brooks, their children and grandchildren, mourn her loss as well.

Helen was the asst. vice president of Pyramid Life Ins. Co. where she served 33 years as Dir. of Personnel. She joined the American Association of University Women (AAUW) in 1984. She was president from 1993-95, co-president in 1997-98 and served as state treasurer for six years. From 2002-06 she served as committee chair of the Irene Wagy Committee, awarding grants to worthy agencies.

Helen and Bob are longstanding members of the Friends of the Rice-Tremonti Home, in Raytown (built 1844).  Helen served on the board of directors for many years and was always willing to volunteer her time and extensive culinary skills for the group.

She very much loved the historical values of the Midwest, especially the Kansas City area. Born September 1, 1934, in Marshall, MO., she graduated from Marshall H.S., attended CMSU, and later graduated from Rockhurst University in 1984 with a B.S.B.A.

Helen enjoyed talking about cooking, politics, women’s rights and historical achievements, and would never turn down the opportunity to take a firm position in just about any subject brought forth.

Helen and Bob would like to encourage all those inspired to make contributions to the Friends of the Rice-Tremonti Home, in Raytown, Missouri, where Bob will remain a strong supporter and fund-raiser.
