Mary Kathleen “Kathy” Leiker

Mary Kathleen “Kathy” Leiker, 66, of Lenexa, KS passed away peacefully September 27, 2010, at home with her loving Thomas at her side.  After a brave struggle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsey she went home to be reunited with her parents, Lawrence and Carlene Travelute, and friends. Kathy was born in Marysville, KS.  She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Thomas Joseph Leiker, and two sons, Daniel Joseph Leiker and his wife Jenny and granddaughter Janey Carlene 3, Lawrence Joseph Leiker and his wife Shelly, and grandchildren, Noah Joseph 4, Owen Thomas 2, and Kennedy Kathleen 8 months, brother Harold Travelute of Hanover, KS and sister JoAnn Deters of Seneca, KS.  The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers, words of encouragement and acts of kindness during her final years.  It’s hard to summarize someone who lived such a full life and touched so many people.  She was raised on a farm and was as comfortable hunting with her dad, as she was learning to cook with her mother.  She loved to entertain guests and no one ever turned down the chance to enjoy her home cooking.  We will remember her as an amazing wife, a loving mother and wonderful  randmother.  We hope her friends will remember her bright smile, beautiful red hair, and the sparkle in her eyes.  We will cherish our memories until we are reunited with her.  Visitation will be held 6:00pm October 14th at Penwell-Gable funeral home in Olathe, KS.  Memorial service will follow starting at 7:00pm.  A private burial will be held at a later date.
