Richard McLain Howard, 81, of Belton, Mo passed away February 25, 2008 at the Veterans Hospital in Kansas City, MO due to a four year struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. Richard is survived by his two daughters, Kathy Cochran & husband Mike of Belton, MO and Sandy Peacock & husband Scott of Ogden, UT, 5 grandchildren, Hanna Cochran, Jason Durrum, Brandon Stefanski, Christopher Nelson, Jordon Smith, and 2 great grandchildren, Allixandria and Jason Durrum, also a longtime friend Wendy Reinman. Richard McLain was born September 11, 1926 to Arthur & Iris Howard of Thayer, MO. He grew up in the Kansas City area and worked for the railroad before joining the Army during Korea in the Medical Corps. He later graduated from UMKC with a degree in Physics. Most of his career was spent working at Bendix Corp as an Electrical Engineer. Richard was an avid skier until age 77, enjoyed golf, find dining, travel and was a pilot for many years. His great wisdom will be truly missed. Private family services.

Dick and I were friends for many years having met when we both worked for the Bendix Corporation and were partners on the championship golf team the Double Eagles. Dick was an intelligent and good person. He will be missed.
I first met Dick while at Bendix and we both loved golf. He always tried to get me to go sking but I was never fond of the cold. We did play a lot of golf. We traded driving back and forth to golf courses and loved that old Cadillac he had. He always was a little eccentric but a truely unique character. We went on several trips together (before I got married). Even taking his Cadillac to New Orleans for Mardi Gras on one adventure. Another time we rented a Cessna 172 from Stateline Airpark and flew to San Francisco stopping at Phoenix (where I live now), Palm Springs, Monterey, San Francisco and on the way back Ogden, UT. Played golf all the way. I knew him for 10 yrs before I left Bendix. We didn’t keep in touch after that but I’ll never forget him.
