Robert "Bob" Whitlock, MSSW, MHA, LCSW, Director of the Missouri Kidney Program passed away Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Boone County Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.
Bob was born in Monett, Missouri and spent his adult life in Columbia, following active and reserve duty with the U.S. Air Force during the 1970s. He served as Director of MoKP (an affiliate of MU) for the past fourteen years and was awarded the Chair Award for Exceptional Service from the National Kidney Foundation and also the National Council for Nephrology Social Workers’ Merit Award. Mr. Whitlock also served on the Governor’s Advisory Council of Aging, the Aging Federation, The Heart Disease and Stroke Advisory Board, the Missouri Diabetes Advisory Board and was current chair of the Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force.
He coached several youth and adult soccer teams in Columbia and also served as an adjunct faculty member for William Woods University. He was a beloved teacher for students at the UMC Depart of Health Management and Informatics, and a mentor to other social workers and kidney health professionals throughout the state.
Mr. Whitlock was preceded in death by his father, Guy and his mother Lola Davis Whitlock. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margo, and was the father of Jessica and Joshua Whitlock. He leaves behind two grandchildren Victoria and Xavier Whitlock of Columbia.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Missouri Kidney Program, AP Green Building, Columbia, Missouri, 65201. A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m.,Tuesday, July 29th at the University of Missouri Reynolds Alumni Center, Great Room.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Bob Whitlock. I worked with Bob when I was the Assistant Manager of the Diabetes Control Program and admired his passion for his work and his fortitude in accomplishing his goals. He was a vital person in the field of Kidney disease and diabetes and will be missed by many. I feel honored that I had the privilege to be able to work with him.
To Jessica, Josh & Family, We were very sorry to hear about your Dad. We met all of you through soccer. We enjoyed sharing with him during many soccer practices & games. He will be missed by all who knew him. May your happy memories of him give you strength today and always.
We are so sorry for your loss. We have long known and admired Bob. He was a man of many talents.

Jess and Josh need the support of everyone that knows them right now during their difficult time. I can’t imagine losing a parent because it has not happened to me yet.
