Cheri L. Crockett

Cheri L. Crockett, 76, of Kansas City, Kansas, died August 27, 2024, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Born March 5, 1948, in KCK to William J. and Mary V. (Sarafian) Crockett. Cheri was joined by a brother, Bill, and a sister, Angi.

After graduating from Turner High School (THS) in 1966, Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) in 1968, and Kansas State Teacher’s College (KSTC) in 1970, Cheri taught third grade at Stony Point South Elementary School in Kansas City, Kan., from 1971-2003 (while also earning a master’s degree from KSTC in 1972).

Cheri was known for her creativity and variety of interests. Many friends and acquaintances are recipients of her customized greeting cards, painted bird houses, or ceramic pieces. A talented musician, she played piano for choirs at THS and KCKCC and was especially proud of having played the harpsichord for the KCKCC production of “The Messiah.”

A gifted conversationalist with a good sense of humor, Cheri’s many interests included her maternal Armenian heritage, rocks, minerals, and fossils –– especially in relationship to their proof of the Genesis flood, feeding birds and stray cats, watching the Kansas City Royals baseball team, and talking politics (Angi says, “as long as you agreed with her”).

Cheri was predeceased by her father in 1956 and mother in 2013. She is survived by her brother, William G. (Bill) Crockett, of Jonesboro, GA; sister, Angi (Harvey) Landholm of Spokane, WA; niece Michelle (Bryan) Tompkins of Spokane, WA, nephew, Scott (Amy) Landholm of St. Marys, GA; and many cousins & friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the First Baptist Church of Turner in KCK, with visitation before the service, beginning at 10 a.m.
