Joan was long time Kansas City resident and was the eldest daughter of Floyd and Janet, both previously deceased. She attended Bancroft Elementary School and graduated from Paseo High School in 1961. She attended Kansas City Junior College before marrying in 1964. Joan was the mother of three children, Jeff Watt (Shannon), Joe Watt (Jill), and Jennifer Shaw (Dennis) and the grandmother of nine grandchildren, Elena, Taylor, Chase, Jacob, Joel, Jonah, Sawyer, Courtney, and Zayden with whom she thoroughly enjoyed spending time. Joan’s courage, love, and strength gave her the ability to raise her three children. Joan always strived to provide for her children and do what was best for them. Joan and her family lived in Sepulveda, CA for several years, during which time she worked at St. Simon’s Episcopal Church. For the past 17 years Joan worked at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church as the Parish Administrator. She also served on the Altar Guild and was involved in many other volunteer activities at the Church. Joan was a member of St. Paul’s from birth, which made her a wealth of knowledge regarding church members and activities and was invaluable in her role as Parish Administrator. Joan was also a member of the Elizabeth Benton Chapter, DAR. Joan loved the holidays and had decorations to express her appreciation of them all. Whether it was Valentine’s Day heart candies, Easter bunny figurines, Fourth of July banners, Halloween skulls and tombstones, inflatable Turkey yard figures or Christmas trees, ornaments, and villages, Joan expressed her appreciation of the holidays by decorating her house for each holiday and hosting family gatherings. Joan is survived by her brothers Michael Doubleday, Steve Doubleday (Micki), Marcia Seheult (Tony), and Pam Willard (Buzz) and many nieces and nephews. Joan’s passion was St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Day School and in memory of her and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 11 E. 40th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64111.
