I can’t seem to come up with words to express my shock and sadness for Dan’s passing. We all use words like sorry, saddened, heartbroken and they just don’t quite go deep enough at a time like this, so I hope and pray that you will feel all the extreme love that is being sent your way by all who knew Dan and that this will bring you some modicum of comfort during this time and in the days ahead.

    DAN HORN

A special, gentle man……….one of the very, very ‘bestest’ of good guys!

When the WCC Hospitality Teams were formed in 2002 – the volunteers were randomly assigned to a Sunday Team – Dan and I ended up, last to volunteer – in the Sanctuary!!!!

Our first Sunday serving was September 2, 2002 and we served together until February, 2006 – Dan deserted me – turned in his Green Shirt for Green Bananas!

During those years – we developed a strong friendship – a bond that survived through the years and ended all too soon April, 2017!

During our ‘early’ years in the Hospitality role in the Sanctuary – we would find a few minutes to chat, getting to know one another – and, we were always amazed at Hospitality leader’s timing…………..she knew the exact second we were talking to one another, she would ‘whisk’ through and remind us we were supposed to be visiting with members – not with one another. Then, Dan’s sweet smile……………and, we would giggle until the next time we found to chat!

When Dan left Hospitality, he gave me a book ‘GRACE for the Journey’ by Max Lucado

After the pastor’s note yesterday AM – I went back and read several passages I had marked through the years – one in particular is SO Dan!

You should be a light for other people,
Live so that they will see the good things you do
And will praise your Father in Heaven.
    Matthew 5:16

You want to make a difference in your world?
    Live a holy life:
    Be faithful to your spouse.
Be the one at the office who refuses to cheat.
Be the neighbor who acts neighborly.
Be the employee who does the work and doesn’t complain.
    Pay your bills.
Do your part and enjoy life.
Don’t speak one message and live another.

People are watching the way we act more than they are listening to what we say.

    A Gentle Thunder

Thank you, Dan Horn, for blessing my life with your grace, your love and your presence!
I am a better person because you passed my way.

    Jonnie Wells

  34. Tom & Roxann Larkins & Family on April 17, 2017 at 4:53 pm

Knowing Dan for near 30 years he never met a stranger, offered his hand when needed and was an illustration of a pleasant heart. He could talk the Blues & Classic Rock and would be more than happy to sit in a lawn chair near a well built fire. He loved to be in the outdoors, the waters of a smooth stream were a reflection of him and his calling. While we didn’t spend as much time as we should have over the past few years, he was and is a good friend as he was to many. We had hoped to burn a few fires this spring/summer and he was saving some old furniture (lol) and laugh about things we could remember as so much time had past, and while we are sad at his loss I know the gifts he had are and will be used for a high calling.
    II Cor 5:6-8
Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

To Joni, Lainey & Eric and the entire Horn Family we prey a peace that passes all understanding and the Grace of God upon you.

  41. Tom Schlueter on April 20, 2017 at 1:37 pm

Some of my best childhood memories are the 4th of July Schlueter/Horn get togethers. I have one vivid memory of Dan and I poking at a hornet’s nest in our backyard — always being boys and always up to no good. Later when I was in middle school another great memory was watching Jeff and Dan help build the wonderful home our family would live in for a good 10 years. Such cherished memories. My sister told me about Dan’s passing after my mom and her had returned from the visitation. I wish I could have been there. This is just unbelievably sad and I am so sorry.

    Joni and Family-
I’m terribly saddened to hear of Dan’s passing. Nothing in life can prepare you for such a sudden loss. So young and so full of love yet to give. Heaven has gained an angel worth wearing gossamer wings for sure. My love to you all. May you feel the comfort of God’s loving arms around you.

I just found out today of Dan,s passing. I am totally in shock. Dan was such a gental, wonderful person. I can remember like yesterday the first time I met Dan, (I believe 1983) and although he was younger than me, I had instant respect for him. I will always remember Dan. Thanks, Jim Bentley.
