Wendell Anthony Crockett

Wendell A. Crockett was born and raised in Kansas City, MO on February 15,1962 to the late Henry and Phylliss Crockett. He attended Southeast High School and studied Industrial Supervision at Maple Woods Community College. His grandparents, brothers, Charles Crockett and Michael Warren; sister, Tracie Lumpkins; brother-in-laws, Richard Lumpkins and Johnny McGowan Sr. and nephews,  Christian Crockett and Johnny McGowan Jr. all preceded him in death.

Wendell professed his belief in Jesus Christ at an early age. He would attend church with his daughters and his sister Tina or watch church services from home. He lived life to the fullest and his motto was “I don’t do stress!”. He was married for 33 years to the late Stephanie Crockett before her departing and leaves behind his surviving wife Janice Wesley-Crockett.

Wendell loved his family. He was very charismatic, outgoing, funny, laid-back, and very optimistic. He had a big heart to love on anyone and accepted them for who they were. He would take anyone under his wings and adopted our friends as his own and called them his sons and daughters. He loved being Papa to his grandchildren and was always trying to recruit our sons to be on his youth football team, while being a dedicated, die-hard Chiefs fan.

Wendell has touched many lives and loved everyone. We will miss your dry bar humor jokes and your stories you would tell even though the story changed every time. We miss how you would call mom just to brag how you saw the grand babies and we’ll never forget how you tried to go to Memphis for a break and your car broke down four hours outside of Kansas City. Rest well old man. Hug and kiss Mommy and all the other family members for us. You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten. We love you and enjoy being “FREE”.

Wendell leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Janice Wesley-Crockett; children Tamekka Holley (Cordell); Tara Dydell (Sam); Brittany Massey; Briton Massey, Sr. (Tashaunda); Jason Regina; stepchildren, Elaine Wesley; Vincent Wesley (Angela); Edmond McNack; Michael Andrews; fifteen grandchildren; mother, Phylliss Crockett; siblings, Shawn Douglas (Andria); DeMarco Vaughn (Tony); Toni Collins (Tyrone); Tina McGowan (Todd); Rachel Crockett; Leesa Williams; Pamela Babbs; Felicia Perkins (Damon); and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews; cousins, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters in Christ, and extended family and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Wendell’s caregiver Eloise Bostic.

A visitation will be held 2:00 ~ 3:00 PM on Friday, August 28, 2020 with a funeral service at 3:00 pm at Heartland, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, Missouri 64133.  To watch the service live via the internet please click here Wendell Crockett Live Stream

Wendell was my first love and from that love we had a beautiful son. Jason. Even after all this time I still have cherished memories of him. We had a love and respect for each other that made us best friends. He was always someone I could depend on, I have missed you and I am comforted knowing he is at peace. A piece of my heart goes with you love, now and forever.
