Larry A. Wood

On Sunday, March 14th, 2021, Larry Alan “LWood” Wood, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 61.

LWood was born February 25th, 1960 in Vancouver, Washington to Clyde “Woody” and Twyla (Entsminger) Wood. LWood started and finished his schooling in North Kansas City, MO graduating from NKC High School in 1978. He then began a career in commercial HVAC in which he would continue until his much-anticipated retirement in June 2020. He made countless friends through his work at A.B. May, O’Dell, and the Park Hill School District.

LWood held many titles – son, brother, husband, father, uncle, beloved friend, and, perhaps most importantly, GRAMPA. Larger than life in stature, voice and presence, he did not know a stranger and perfected the art of the forehead kiss. You’d be hard pressed to drive through the Kansas City northland and see a building he couldn’t have pointed at and said “I’ve been on that roof…”. He was an avid Chiefs fan and regular Lot D tailgater for over a decade. Co-host of the infamous Boat Drink party, good luck finding a drink of choice he couldn’t provide. LWood’s musical boundaries were pushed as he became a willing concert companion for everything from The Lumineers to Joe Bonamassa to The Foo Fighters. Grill master extraordinaire, he relied on a tried & true timing method that required only a watch, a pen and his trusty yellow legal pad. He’d travel anywhere, but also tell you that all roads lead to Hanalei. Kauai was his happy place and where his ashes will come to rest.

LWood was preceded in death by his father, Clyde, mother, Twyla, and sister Dee Mott and her daughter Richelle Mott. He is survived by his wife, Liz Young, brother Dave (Lisa) Wood, daughter Andrea (Patrick) Short of Marietta, GA, son Justin (Megan) Wood of Kauai, HI, sister Michelle Campbell, nephews Andrew and Dustin Wood, Mike and Chris Holmes and Tony Seales, countless friends, a slew of “honorary” brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, nieces and nephews, and his beloved grandbabies – Evelyn & Molly Short (Marietta, GA) and Macsen & Maizie Wood (Kauai, HI).

LWood was a giver, a doer and a lover, through and through. To have met him was to have been on the receiving end of some facet of his generosity. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you pay it forward. Tip EXTRA big, buy the next Starbucks order (or 2, or 10…), send flowers to someone who needs to know how loved they are. A celebration of life will be held in Kansas City in the summer of 2021. In the meantime, raise a glass and remember “Hey, LWood loves you, you know that, right?”.
