He is survived by his wife, Barbara Gear Briegel of the home; two children, Brantley Briegel (Rhonda Charboneau), daughter, Linda Kennard (Jim Bracken); two grandchildren, Clayton Briegel (Rebekah Perkins), Rhianne Briegel; two great grandchildren, Gunnar Briegel and Wylder Briegel; two sisters, Connie Wright (Michael Wright) and Janice Beavers; brother, Charles Briegel; sister-in-law, Marilyn Leeper Whitacre; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, David Briegel, parents-in-law, Eugene and Virginia Gear, son-in-law, Kris Kennard, two brothers-in-law, James Leeper and Michael Gear, sister-in-law, Rosamond Briegel and niece, Jeanne Tawney.

Deer hunting at his parents’ farm with family members was always looked forward to and he enjoyed fishing and boating when the family lived at Lake Lotawana.  He particularly enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, and watching the changing seasons across the pond behind his home in Lone Jack.  He loved the companionship of his grandchildren  and teaching them to fish, boat, and garden as they grew up.  There was nothing he loved better than grocery shopping.

James made his confession of faith at the Paint Lick Cumberland Presbyterian Church near Trenton, Missouri.  He was a member of the Lone Jack Christian Church (DOC) and he loved his church, serving it as a deacon and trustee.

According to his wishes he was cremated and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Lone Jack Christian Church, 200 West Lone Jack/Lee’s Summit Road, Lone Jack, Missouri 64070, or the charity of choice.

Even though Michael and I have not known Jimmy for many years, we have considered you both good friends. We enjoyed visiting with you both and know he will be missed by all his family and friends.
