James (Jim) Michael Slinker

James (Jim) Michael Slinker of Raytown, MO passed away Wednesday, March 30th, 2022, after a battle with cancer. Jim was surrounded by family.

Jim was born January 17th, 1962 to Harold Dale and Eileen Marie (Postl) Slinker. He grew up in Independence, MO and graduated from Van Horn High School in 1980.

Throughout his life, Jim occupied many roles. He was a US Army serviceman and a union Millwright, but his most important role was that of a husband and a dad. He met his wife Silvia Maria Theresia (Decker) Slinker in 1987 while stationed in Baumholder, Germany. They married in Germany in 1988 and welcomed their first child, Daniel Lee Slinker, in Germany in 1992. In 1995, they moved back to the USA and purchased their home in Raytown, where they welcomed daughters Helene Katharina Slinker in 1997 and Eileen Marie Slinker in 1999. When not working to provide for his family, Jim loved rifle and bow hunting, creating furniture, and having a beer with friends around the bonfire.

Jim is survived by his wife Silvia of 33 years and his three children, Daniel, Helene, and Eileen. He leaves behind three siblings and their spouses: Rodney and Donna Slinker, Lynn (Slinker) and Steve Hilton, and Steven Slinker. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold Dale and Eileen Marie Slinker, along with his older brother, Scott Edward Slinker.

Jim’s family would like to thank all of Jim’s friends and family for the support as he battled lung cancer over the past year. They would also like to thank the hospice care team from St. Luke’s.

Jim did not want to have traditional services. Instead, he wishes to have a celebration of life bonfire when the springtime weather gets warmer. In his own words, his requests are for: “beer, BBQ, bonfire and music. So show up with a big appetite, your drinking boots, and a good memory.” The family will reach out to Jim’s loved ones at a later date when the Celebration of Life is scheduled.

In lieu of Flowers the Family would prefer that Donations be made to St. Lukes Hospice.
