Sondra Diggs (Lewis)

Sondra Diggs (Lewis) passed away early April 15, 2022 at the age of 73. Sondra was the second of five children born to Lillian and Charles Lewis, born in Boonville, MO. Sondra was raised in Kansas City, KS, and graduated from Sumner High School in 1966. She went on to attend Pittsburg State University where she not only met and married Donald Diggs but graduated with a bachelors degree. She pursued a graduate degree at the University of Arizona while raising her older son, Darin. Returning to Kansas, she and Donald welcomed a second son, DeShaun in Wichita.

Career-wise she started first as a social worker at KU Medical Center then transitioned to a supervisor for the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS). Tenacity in her work helped her provide for her family as a single parent. Motherhood was a priority for Sondra and raising upstanding sons took a strong character that far outweighed her petite stature. Her faith in God and inner strength helped her strive later in life when she was faced with many overwhelming health issues.

Her role changed from Mother to Nana with the birth of her first grandchild, Devin Diggs. Her love of her children and their children became the focal point of her life—driving to parts of the Kansas City area she’d never previously visited—watching basketball, baseball, soccer, plays, etc. She enjoyed growing plants, gospel music and good food.

Sondra was preceded in death by her siblings—Ronald Lewis, Barbara Belton (Lewis) and Terence Lewis; mother, Lillian Franklin (Buckner Lewis); father Charles Lewis; stepfather Douglas Franklin; and Donald Diggs.

Sondra is survived by her brother, Jeffery Lewis; two sons, Darin (Christi) and DeShaun (Gina) Diggs; five grandchildren, Devin, Kendall, Darby, Carter and Daley Diggs; and many nephews and nieces.

Memorial services will be: Monday, April 25, 2022; at 11 a.m. at Lenexa Baptist Church in the K Hall (15320 W. 87th St. Parkway, Lenexa, Kansas 66219. Visitation will be before with family and friends at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made Interstitial Cystitis Association (ICA) https://www.ichelp.org/.
