Wanda Maxine McClenagan

Wanda Maxine McClenagan
4/9/36 – 3/19/23

Maxine, as everyone called her, was born on April 9, 1936 to Delbert M Reaves and Anna J. (Sanderson) Reaves in Keytesville, MO and grew up in Pleasant Hill, MO. She married Richard Ray McClenagan of Kansas City, MO, and to this union, 3 children were born: Richard Ray McClenagan Jr of DeSoto, MO and 2 deceased daughters, Kathy Jo McClenagan and Kristy Kay McClenagan.

“Max” as she was lovingly referred to, retired from AT&T, Sprint and Erickson Communications. She joined Ricky (her son) on several Civil War reenactments where she slept in the truck. She would find unique ways to let those around her know she appreciated them. She wrote poems for special occasions, attended special musical events with Ricky and Kristy, loved barber shop quartet music and the Gaither Vocal Band.

Maxine was instrumental in helping Kristy start her own business and although she always denied it, she fed all the outdoor and indoor cats and worried about them to the end of her life. She protected those close to her and would take a hard stance if anyone tried to mess with her kids, friends or co-workers. She will be missed by all those who were close to her.

She joined the Independence Seventh-day Adventist Church in 2003 and was a faithful member until her death. She worked in Women’s Ministry, attended many Women’s Retreats with her daughter Kristy and served as a Greeter for many years. Her absence is missed by all her brothers and sisters in the faith.

She passed away at Autumn Terrace Care Center in Raytown after several trips to the hospital prior to her death. She is survived by her son Richard (Ricky) McClenagan of DeSoto, MO. Her Memorial Service will be held at the Independence Seventh-day Adventist Church on April 1, 2023 at 4:00 PM. Flowers and cards can be sent to the church at 13305 Kemper Ave, Independence, MO 64050.

I miss my dear sisters, Kristy & Maxine. Both were unique in their own special ways. They were kind, thoughtful, loving and forgiving. They were the perfect duo – Kristy handled the computer graphics, Maxine wrote the poems – but together they were a strong front showing support in times of crisis or need for anyone but especially for friends and family. I have walked down some very lonely roads with Kristy and Maxine was always right there as close as she could get. When she felt she could no longer help Kristy, she would call me and ask for prayer – or something to help get Kristy’s mind off of her darkness. Kristy preceded Maxine by 6 months in death – and I still can’t believe either one of them is gone! My faith says I’ll see them again when Jesus comes, but I still miss them in the here and now. God has sent His angels to watch over where they sleep until Jesus breaks through the Eastern sky and comes to deliver us from the bondage of death.
