Carol Hood

Carol Wayne Hood, 64, passed from this life at his home in Independence, MO on Tuesday, July 7, 2009. He was born December 25, 1944 in Joplin, MO to Oval and Mae Hood.

Wayne attended schools in the Joplin area. He enlisted in the United States Army in November of 1963 through March of 1972. During this time, he proudly served our country for two years in Vietnam. After being Honorably discharged, just a few months later he signed up with the United States Army Reserves and served until 1979. In the middle of that year he then signed up with the Army National Guard until September of 1989.

During the early 1970’s, he also worked at Grandpa’s Discount Store on North Main in Joplin. Wayne enjoyed spending time putting jigsaw puzzles together and probably more than anything else, helping others with any task they might have.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by brothers, Warren Hood of Arizona, Gary Hood & wife Margy of Joplin, MO, and Randy Hood and wife Mandy, also of Joplin; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins around the Joplin area.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Southview Manor community room, 2600 Hub Dr. N., Independence, MO at 10:00 AM. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a charity of your choice.
