Charles Hauer

Charles R. Hauer, 83, Raytown, MO, passed away April 10, 2011. He was born in Independence, MO, on September 20, 1927. He was a graduate of Central High School and University of Richmond. Charles was a gunnery sergeant in the US Marine Corps serving in both WWII as a “China” Marine and in Korea. He was awarded the purple-heart. He worked in the telecommunications industry and he and his wife owned Greater KC Communications. He was a founding member and Commander of VFW Post 6840 and later a member of 4242. He served as VFW District Commander and he was State Commander for the Cooties. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where he was a Lector. Charles is survived by his wife, Greta; sister, Betty Dickerson; son, Robert Hauer (Becky); daughter, Karen (Jim) Goering; daughter, Kathleen (David) Marker; stepchildren, Dr. Stephen (Faith) Paoni, Dr. Chris Paoni, Tracie Zubeck; 13 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes, Raytown, MO, from 6-8:30 p.m., Rosary at 8 p.m. Mass will be Friday, April 15, 2011 at 11 a.m., at the Church. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to VFW Auxillary Post 4242, Cancer Aid and Research Fund, 6419 Railroad St., Raytown, MO 64133.
