Gerald Fitch

Gerald H. Fitch, 93, died at the Monterey Nursing Center Thursday, February 4, 2010.   Dr. Fitch, a retired dentist, was born May 16, 1916 in West Baden, Indiana.   He is survived by his wife Retha Fitch and step-children Aleta Nelson (Willard), John Davis (Joan), Hal Davis (Barbara Brock), three sisters-in-law, eight grandchildren, nieces and nephews, a sister (Jewell Brity), brother Col. Melvin Fitch (Beverly), nieces and nephews. Any person Dr. Fitch met and spent time with was a story to him.  He was an avid story teller. A memorial will be at a later time in the Community of Christ church in Cherokee Village, AR. An eight-year challenge of Parkinson’s disease limiting his mobility was disappointing but accepted.  Gerald served in the Navy during World War II, most of his time in the South Pacific assigned to aircraft carrier Saratoga CV3.  He was discharged November 19, 1945 as a chief commissary steward.  While practicing dentistry in Plymouth, Michigan, he spent vacation time providing dental clinics in Honduras.  As an elder he served as pastor and ministered to the church in Hardy, Arkansas for several years.
