Helen Groves

Helen Martha Groves, 85, of Columbia,  passed away February 26, 2010  in her home.  She was born January 17th, 1925 in Chicago Illinois to Anton and Laura Johnson.  She attended Lutheran High School and was Valedictorian her senior year.  She later attended college, became a school teacher and taught in settings that varied from a one room school house to public school and to the Lutheran School in Rolla, Missouri.  She later worked for the phone company.  She married Henry “Hank” Groves and they had six children.  Throughout her life she enjoyed bible study.  In her later years, she enjoyed crossword puzzles.

She is survived by sons Chris Groves and wife Dianne, Jeff Groves and wife Linda “Billie”, Dwight Groves and wife Angie, daughters Judi Groves, Kathy Collins and husband Lee, and Mary Cutts, 23 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.  A private memorial will be held by the family.  Memorial contributions are suggested to The Salvation Army.

    Helen was a wonderful mother-in-law. I will miss her greatly. I had so much respect for her.

    Helen was loved by everyone. She was the best Mother-in-law anyone could have. She wrote me a beautiful letter of how much she loved me. I will miss her.
