Joseph Whalen Lechner, 67, NKC, MO passed away July 4, 2010 at home of mesothelioma . Memorial Visitation will be held 10 AM-12 PM, July 10, 2010 at NKC Community Center, NKC, MO. Burial in Savannah Cemetery, Savannah, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice, 2900 NE 60th Street, Ste 150, Gladstone, MO 64119. Joe was born July 7, 1942 in Flint, MI. He graduated from North Salem HS, Salem, OR. He was an Army Veteran. Joe was a pipe fitter for 45 years, 29 of which were at Honeywell, KC, MO. He was a member of the US Masters Swimming and many local running clubs. Joe will be remembered for his sense of humor, love of square dancing and appreciated the fellowship and camaraderie of the men he worked with for 29 years. Joe is preceded in death by; mother & father, Vincent & Georgianna (Whalan) Lechner. Survivors include; wife of 29 years, Martha Lechner; children, Pamela Burks, Demetria Jones, Lance Lechner & Josephine Bodtke; stepchildren, Elise Robinette, Mark Howard & Susan Howard-Perry, eighteen grandchildren & extended family of eight sisters, and two brothers. May the family find peace in knowing that Joe was loved by many. Many who will miss him unmeasureably. Had the pleasure of meeting and working with him fo 25+ years. My pet name for him was Steven Speilberg. My prayer, Steven, is that you are resting in the clouds outside Heaven’s door.
