Katherine Louise Stouse, 84, of Lake Waukomis, MO passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at St. Luke’s Northland Hospital after a short illness. The family will receive friends at a reception and celebration of her life from 5-7 PM on Saturday, August 2, at The Lake Waukomis Community Center, 1147 South Shore Dr., Lake Waukomis, MO. A tribute to Katherine will be offered by family and friends at 6:00 PM at the Center. Contributions in her memory may be made to The Pet Connection, 4771 Johnson Dr. in Shawnee Misison, KS. Katherine was born February 2, 1919 in Kansas City, MO to Arthur W. Long and Florence B. Watts. A life-long resident in Kansas City, she was a graduate of Paseo High School and an employee of Crown Drug Company and Kansas City Power and Light Company. She married Merle Stouse in 1948 and moved to Lake Waukomis, MO in 1950, becoming one of the founding families of the community. Katherine was active in civic activities including The Garden Club, The Women’s Club and The Goldseekers Investment Club. She was an accomplished bowler and an avid card player. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Mildred Hurst. She is survived by her brother, Richard B. Long, Cincinnati, OH; a son, Dennis K. Stouse, Jacksonville, FL; a daughter, Janice S. Stouse, Lake Waukomis, MO; a grandson, Terry Swaffors, Chicago, IL; and a granddaughter, Erin Swafford, Lake Waukomis, MO. Also surviving are a step-son, Lawrence D. Stouse; three step grandchildren; four nieces and nephews; and a foster son, Dr. Somkiat Onwimon, Bangkok, Thailand.
