Mary Dell Bernardin, 82, of Lone Jack, Missouri, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2009 at her Lone Jack home.  Mrs. Bernardin was born February 21, 1926 in Baxter Springs, Kansas.  She lived her childhood years in Southwest City, Missouri.  After living in Hobbs, New Mexico for a period, she moved to Santa Monica, California in 1942 where she was a cashier for Von’s grocery for several years.  After moving to Gonzales, California for some years, she moved to Lone Jack, Missouri in 1990. She enjoyed dinning out and was often heard to say "That’s the best I’ve ever had" and "Is the coffee fresh?"  Family and friends will remember her favorite treat was See’s candies, any type.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Nina and Karl Brewer; her brother, Joe Brewer and her husband, Freeman Murphy.  Survivors include: 2 daughters; Suzanne Culp of Lone Jack and Cynthia Reifschneider of Castro Valley, California, 2 brothers; William O. Brewer of Cathedral City, California and John Brewer of Lakewood, California; Grandchildren; Robyn Lynn Lilly, Cynthia Renae Kritser, Sandy Diane DeMier, Shawn Lee Reifschneider, Dale Edward Reifschneider and Great Grandchildren; Marcus Kainen Kritser, Hannah Kathryn Lilly, Olivia Suzanne Lilly and Andrew Robert Reifschneider.

The following is a sentiment that we think Mary would like shared with her loved one’s:

To: My Dearest Family & Friends,

There are some things I’d like to say but first of all I’d like to let you know that I am writing this from Heaven to let you know that I have arrived ok.  Here, there are no more tears of sadness; there is just eternal love.  That day I had to leave you when my life on Earth was through, then God hugged me and said to me "Welcome home, Mary"

    Mary was such a beautiful human being. I’m so glad I had a chance to know her. It has been many years since I have seen here but her brother, Bill, has kept me up to date. I will always remember the time spent with Suzie and family in Lone Jack. N

    Mary was a very special person, instantly loved by every one who met her. She hadso many fine qualities: She was loving, compassionate and caring. She had a quality of love of people and things – She loved mountains, trees and rock and any and all kinds of flowers. She was always a sweetheart, literally

    Dear Mary, I have missed you ever since you left us here on the farm in Gonzales. My childrens’ childhoods would not have been as rich if they hadn’t had Grandma Mary & Grandpa Murph next door. You were a true & caring friend, always willing to do what you could to make our lives better. We will never forget you & fondly remember our only trip to Lone Jack.     I only just found out of Mary’s passing. I knew Mary through my Uncle Dick (Kostakos) and her brother, Bill. I have very fond memories of her. My mother(Florence Rabe)and Mary were GREAT friends. There were always fun times when Mary was here for a visit and even more so if my mother was visiting from Chicago at the same time. What a great sense of humor she had! Mary and my mother are in heaven catching up on “things” over a FRESH cup of coffee.
    My thoughts and prayers go to her entire family.
