Matthew Skinner

Matthew Lyon Skinner, 34, of Overland Park, KS, died September 9, 2008 at his home. A celebration of Matt’s life will be held at Homer’s Coffee Shop, 80th & Metcalf on Sunday, September 14 at 3:00 p.m. As an enthusiastic 7 year old Matt darted in front of a car on Halloween night and sustained a brain injury. His life and the lives of those that loved him changed irreparably in that moment. He lived courageously, facing daily challenges of body, mind and spirit. He was a source of joy and inspiration to everyone who knew him. Matt was a unique and talented young man who loved music of all kinds, painted with a sense of strength and determination and possessed a unique sense of empathy and caring for others uncommon in this world. Matt will forever be remembered by his Mom, Perry Lyon, his Dad, Jim, Skinner, his brother Travis, wife Shelley, his step-Mom Carla, step-sister Heather, and his niece Ella and nephews Hylan and Tobin. Matt has many other family members and friends who will treasure his memory. The family request no flowers but suggests donations be made to the scholarship established in Matt’s name at Communityworks, Inc.

Matt, my little brother because of the love that his family showed me as they welcomed me as one of their own. Though I lost touch, I will never forget how much I loved him and time we spent together.
