Shirley Wadleigh

Shirley Wadleigh, 74, Independence, MO, passed away February 8, 2010 at Research Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, February 12, at Blue Ridge United Methodist Church, 5055 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64133. A visitation will precede the service and begin at 1 p.m. Shirley was born June 10, 1935, in Sedalia, MO, to Harley and Imogene Williams. Shirley attended school in Green Ridge, MO, and graduated from high school there in 1953. After high school, she attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, completing an associates program in two years. After graduation, she married Harvey Wadleigh. A few years later they moved to the Kansas City area, and both became teachers in the Raytown School district. Shirley taught in the Raytown district for 29 years before retiring. Shirley enjoyed her family, travel, and flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents, and 2 brothers, Robert and Donald Williams. She leaves behind her husband of almost 55 years, Harvey, 3 children, Gregory, of St. Louis, MO, Lori Dowling and husband Rick, of Visalia, CA, and Douglas, of St. Louis, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Raytown Retired Teachers Association, PO Box 16951, Raytown, MO 64133, or The Blue Ridge United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund .
