Vernon George




Vernon Wayne George, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to many, age 69, of Montgomery City entered into eternal rest December 7, 2008.  Vern was born April 23, 1939 in Atoka, TN to the late Nellie and Leon George.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday December 11, 2008 at High Point Community Chapel in Montgomery City with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  Burial will immediately follow in High Point Cemetery.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Calvin and James George and sister Barbara Jenkins.  He is survived by his loving wife Barbara George; sons, Dennis, Tim, and Tony George; his step-children William Swan, Robert Swan, and Amy Roberts; his grandchildren Jason George, Stefanie George, Ryan George; step-grandchildren Benjamin Swan, Chris Swan, Eric Swan, Sara Swan, Samantha Swan; his brothers and sisters Dorothy Smith, John George, Alama Staple, Herman George, Carlyn Johnson, Kenneth George and Danny Overton.  Vern retired from General Motors and was a member of the High Point Community Chapel.  Vern enjoyed singing gospel music, playing guitar, riding horses, tinkering on the farm (changing people’s tires), welding, wood working, and spending time with his family.  Memorials are requested in his name to help Alzheimer’s research.
