Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute
Wilhelmina Nelson, known as “Fritz” to friends and “Mimi” to her family, died in the early hours of April 14, 2011 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born to Robert Lee Beasley and Willie Matt (Lacher) Beasley in Flatwoods, TN on November 20, 1918. She grew up in Tennessee and moved to California in the late 1930’s.
Fritz married Calvin Comins Dorough, and then later, Jack Albert Nelson. She lived most of her life in Salinas, CA and belonged to The First Presbyterian Church, was involved in Girl Scouts, Red Cross, and especially the Valley Guild. She had also worked many years as office manager for a large medical practice. She loved painting and gardening. Fritz was a loving, intelligent, vibrant person who stole the scene wherever she was with her beauty and personality. After the death of her husband, Jack, she moved to Columbia to be near her daughter.
Mrs. Nelson is survived by her daughter Patricia Dorough Gibbs and son-in-law Finley, her grandchildren Finley Dorough Gibbs and wife Rebecca, Melissa Ann Gibbs and Amy Gibbs Fagan and husband Jeffrey. Her great grandchildren are Finley Cowles Gibbs, Ian Nelson Gibbs, Molly Katherine Fagan, Jeremy Gibbs Fagan, and Ethan Ross Fagan. Her entire family will miss her quick wit, heartfelt hugs and bright smile. We are thankful for the kind; loving care given to her by the ladies of the Arbors, Dr. Steven Zweig and his staff, as well as Hopsice Compassus.
It wa struly a pleasure to spend time with Fritz when visiting my own mother(Una)at the Arbors. She always had a wonderful smile.
