Agnes Retz, age 97, died on Feb 13, 2023, at Santa Marta in Olathe KS. She passed away peacefully with family at her side.
She was born to William and Catherine Gaul on a farm in Earling, IA, the second youngest of twelve children. She married Eugene Retz and they raised their two sons in Omaha and Bellevue, NE.
Agnes is survived by her sons Daniel of Lincoln NE, and David (Sally) of Overland Park, KS; two grandchildren, William and Katherine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services at a later date.
Agnes was a person who brought joy to everyone, wherever she went. We loved to hear her tell jokes, tell family stories and discuss views on politics at various family functions.
May God give Daniel, Dave, Sally, William, and Katherine comfort and peace at this very sad time for them.
Love,
Robert & Joan Gaul
Johnston, IA
Always will remember The cabin in Bellevue on Hansens Lakes. We’d get to go there every summer. It was always a big day! Agnes and Gene always showed us such a fun time! And they had a shuffle board in their basement……the coolest thing ever.
My condolences to the Retz family. She was one of a kind and will be missed, but never forgotten. Loved my Aunt Agnes!

Agnes was a pistol, always the life of the party. She will be greatly missed. Aunt Agnes is probably having a heck of reunion in heaven with Gene and all her siblings.
I am sure that your memories of you Mom and Grandmother will help you through this difficult time. I will keep your family in my prayers.

Agnes was a “one of a kind” aunt! She was always fun to be around and I loved her laugh!
In her later years, she would tell stories about growing up and filled a lot of history about the Gaul family.
Our condolences and prayers to Dan, Dave & Sally and her grandchildren. She will be missed by all.
Agnes (and Gene) served as my Godparents; and what wonderful Godparents they were! My folks (Frank & Pat Goodell) & I loved her dearly. Her warm and kindness will surely be missed. Warm regards and condolences to the family.

So many great memories of Agnes. My sister, Jane and I would spend time at the Retz home and their sons would come to the farm. We so looked forward to this special time. Agnes took us to the zoo and the lake cabin. Agnes (and Gene) took us to the Firehouse Dinner Theater. So fun!
Once we tried to help with the paper route. Gave our poor Aunt quite the scare when we took shelter in someone’s home to wait out a storm and she couldn’t find us. (I still feel bad about that)
Praying for the Retz family.
I always heard such good things about the Retz family. My parents, Nick and Marge Erkman were friends with them. So very sorry for your loss. I have a photo of my family sitting in the sand at your cabin, it is interesting to see other comments about the cabin, your folks must have been welcoming, kind, generous hosts! My heart goes out to you.
