Alice Fry passed into eternal life on April 27, 2008. She was born in Glenolden, Pennsylvania on October 26, 1915 and lived there until she married Thomas Fry, who predeceased her. They had two daughters: Jean Mynderse (Jon) and Linda Lankard (Don). She also is survived by 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Alice and Tom moved several times and retired to N. Ft Myers, Florida where Alice lived for 25 years.
In high school Alice played all the sports available to a young woman. Basketball was her favorite, but she also participated in hockey and swimming. All her life she wanted a bicycle and when she moved to Florida she bought herself one. During her 25 years in Florida she rode her bicycle every day and wore several out. In addition to bicycling, she loved to walk around Tamiami Village, the mobile home park where she lived, and to swim in the pools. When the grandchildren came to visit, there were many days spent at the beach collecting shells and swimming in the Gulf of Mexico.
Alice was a founding member of the Pilgrims Church in Ft. Myers. She was an active member and edited the church newsletter for many years. In her final years in Florida, she moved her membership to Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church, which was closer to her home.
In 2004, Alice moved to John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit, Missouri to be closer to her daughter Linda. She lived independently for several years and continued her daily walks. In 2007 she moved into the memory unit in assisted living. She was a great favorite of all the staff and died peacefully in her room after a short illness. Her family is grateful to all the caregivers who helped to make her final days comfortable.
Thinking of you.
May God rest her soul
