David Andrew Wakeland

David Andrew Wakeland, 68, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the Menorah Medical Center. Born September 27, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri to Jack and Mary Wakeland he lived most of his life in Johnson County, Kansas.

David is survived by his sister; Lisa, Andrea George niece, Justin Smith nephew and Caitlin George great niece. As well as family and friends who will think fondly of him when a certain song comes on, witness an unbelievable play, like the World’s Series, read an incredible book, or make his famous leg of lamb recipe!

After graduating high school from Shawnee Mission South, he attended Johnson County Community College. The college life was not for David, he went on to complete an 18 month program in HVAC at Vatterott & Sullivan Educational Centers. Furthering his education, he attended the Esco Institute receiving various other certifications. David worked for GE, several heating and cooling companies, and even for himself.

David, a devoted son moved back to the family home when his father was ill helping his mother after Jack passed away. Also characterized as being infinitely complicated; the kind of person that no matter your differences, he would enjoy engaging you in spirited conversations. However, the next moment he could talk for hours about music and musicians, reminisce, laughing over his past exploits, and misadventures with family and friends. We hope and pray you find peace on the other side.

A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church 6630 Nall Avenue, Mission Kansas 66202. Memorial donations may be made in David’s name to Standing in the gap ministries P.O. Box 453, Warrensburg, Missouri 64093.

I believe this is the same Dave Wakeland who came to our townhouse in Mission and fixed many of the problems we had. He was an all around handy man who was very nice and charged very little. When we moved to Shawnee, KS in 1994, we lost touch with him unfortunately. He was a great human being and the world has lost a kind helping man.
