Doris Mae Schut-Harding-Sager (nee Knutson) entered this life on March 23, 1939 and departed on December 25, 2023. Doris’ kind, loving and creative spirit graced the lives of her family, friends, countless students, and associates. Doris enjoyed gardening, crafts of all kinds and excelled at turning one man’s trash into another man’s treasure.
Doris was preceded in death by husbands Harvey Schut (1963) and Bruce Harding (1982) and is survived by Milon Sager. Her father Arthur (Milford) Knutson, mother Etta Mae (Standiford) Knutson, and grandson David Schut also preceded her passing. Doris is survived by her sisters Irene (Mayland “Pete) Petersen and Karen (Roger) Pavlis along with her and Harvey’s children Dallas (Elena Bibbo) Schut, Melanie (Bob Henderson) Boer and Todd (Deona) Schut.
Grandchildren include Alexia (Tim) Halverson, Greg (Sara) Schut, Tyler (Brenna) Godlevsky, Sara (Jonathan) Stark and Aimee (Adam Blair) Boer.
Great-grandchildren (Alexia) Claire and Chase Halverson; (Greg) Londyn and Parker Schut; (Tyler) Hannah Schut, Briella, Kimber, Colt and Kenna Godlevsky; (Sarah) Zion and Loxley Stark and (Aimee) Eady Boer.
Doris embraced Bruce’s children Diane Hunter, Trudy (Brian) Pederson-Papka, Rose (Chris) Chase, Tena McLaughlin and Irving “Butch” Harding and Milo’s children James Sager, Lynette Smilden, Steve (Patti) Sager, Laurie (Mike) Ruell and Ron (Sandy) Sager along with their children and grandchildren as her own.
We will celebrate her life at West Bethany Church (Laura Ingalls Wilder Homestead) in DeSmet, South Dakota at 11 am on March 23, 2024. Burial will be at the West Bethany Cemetery in Erwin, South Dakota.
Doris was the very best neighbor and grandma to my kids. They have lots of fond memories of going to her house. She taught me almost everything I know about sewing, canning and farm sales. She will be missed. Our prayers are with Milo and her family.

Best neighbor ever! She and Milo were so good to me when we were neighbors in Montrose SD. She certainly has earned God’s good graces. Eternal rest grant unto you Doris. Love and hugs to Milo and her children.
We trusted our children to Doris’s education expertise at Montrose school, and were greatly rewarded! Our children and our grandchildren have wonderful memories to keep Doris alive in their hearts. We are confident that we will see her again, so our hearts celebrate with her ?and break for Milo and her family.??
