Harley Dean Zans

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our adored son, Harley Dean Zans, on January 4, 2025 at the age of 29. Harley was a kind, passionate, loyal, encouraging, supportive, cherished and most of all wildly comical lad who brought joy to all who knew him. He is survived by his loving parents, JoAnna and Bruce Baker; his sisters Julia, Elizabeth, Madison, Nikki, Angel, Abby, Katherine, and Nani; his brothers, Micah, Nate, Trevor and Connor; his grandparents John and Alyce Utz, Paul Baker, Clarence Peel and Carolyn McCarthy; his second mommas Dawn Zans, Christine Sullivan, and Dana Hill; his Aunts Judy Gibbs, Jody Baker, and Uncle Steven Baker; and his cousins (but more like sisters) Melissa and Emily Fleming. Harley was preceded in death by Brandi McCarthy Kerisimasi, who was a mom to him treating him as her own, always supporting and loving him unconditionally. He was also preceded in death by his Granny Bonnie Zans and Grandma Anna Marie Peel whose tender loving care knew no bounds. Harley had so much family and friends it is impossible to list everyone that he loved and who loved him back.

Harley will always be remembered for his many goofy faces, ridiculous laughter and bizarre sounds which always made us laugh. Despite life’s challenges, he faced them with courage and resilience, showing the true meaning of strength to all those around him. Though he may have left this world way too soon, his memory will live on in our hearts, a testament to his profound impact on those blessed to know him. We pray that people will follow in his footsteps of making this world a better place for those struggling with mental health issues, day-to-day challenges or battles of any kind. Harley never wanted anyone to suffer. Let his smile, joy and laughter be the soundtrack of our lives. Though he may have left us far too soon, his memory will forever be a source of joy and a mantra to always keep fighting.

Harley will be forever missed for his compassionate heart, his infectious laughter, and the light that he brought to the darkness in this world. Harley’s Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 beginning at Noon and ending at 2:00 p.m. at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO 64133.
