We are sad to announce the passing of our beautiful mother Hertha Maurine January Stephens of Kansas City Missouri. She died at the age of 81 on December 19, 2022. Hertha passed away surrounded by her loved ones. There are no words in the world to describe the amazing woman she was, but everyone that met her loved her so much.
Hertha is survived by her nine children, Tammy Segear, Tori Freelen, Donald January Jr., Terri Ramirez, Tina Hendrickson, Tonya Corn, Doug January, David January, and Derrick January and their families. Hertha has 33 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren. She is already missed so much and we know she is looking down on everyone.
So sorry to hear that Hertha has passed. When I knew her she was married to the drummer of our band Don January. They had two little girls, Tammy and I can’t remember the other ones name. The band practiced almost every night at their house on Dirr Street in Parsons, Kansas. It was a small house but Hertha always made each of us feel welcome. I think she liked the music as much as the guys in the band did. I will always remember her that way. She was a fine lady and a good friend; once we became friends on Facebook it was like old times. I will miss her and think of her often. RIP Hertha.
I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. We are thinking of you and your family during this difficult time. Sending lots of love.
The Lotharius Family sends our deepest condolences to the January Family. Aunt Hertha was a very special woman in many people’s lives. She held a special place in my heart as she was always so loving and kind to me when I was little. As I got older and the years drifted we sadly lost contact. I will always hold those childhood memories in my heart forever. May God grant the January family and all who knew her with peace and comfort in our time of grieving.
My deepest condolences to your family. I have so many great memories of your mother and the family. Growing up two blocks away from each other she was like a second mom. I am so happy to have those experiences with Hertha and all you, you cannot hug a memory, but those memories can still move your heart. You all are in my thoughts.
Mema used to babysit me when I was a kid and she was someone who I considered family even though she wasn’t related to me. She was an absolutely wonderful woman that had a huge heart and would always make you laugh. I’m so glad that I got to know her and spend time with her growing up. Rest in peace Mema.
The very first time I saw this beautiful lady was in Fort Worth, Texas; I was around 7 yrs old. Uncle Donnie brought her over to my parent’s home to meet us. Beautiful lady with a blondish long ponytail! I was smitten with her! I instantly loved her! She became my wonderful aunt! God gave us all a forever Angel! I will miss you!
Love your niece, Nubby
