Janet Doubleday

Janet Strain Doubleday, 90, a Kansas City resident for many years, died February 10, 2004 at home surrounded by her family. She had been diagonsed with ALS several weeks before. Memorial Service will be held 1:30 pm, Friday, February 13, 2004 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, KCMO, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. Contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Church or St. Luke’s Hospital Auziliary. Janet was born January 7, 1914 in Chicago, IL and lived in Knoxville, TX and Indianapolis, IN before moving to Kansas City in 1925 with her parents, B. Webb and Florence M. Strain. She graduated from Westport High School and attended Kansas City Jr. College. In 1942, Janet married Floyd E. Doubleday, III. The couple celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on January 27, 2004. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Kansas City, where she was a long time member of the Friday Guild and served on the Altar Guild. In 1969 she joined a group of church members from the Episcopal Diocese of West Missouri to create a retirement and extended care facility, a concept that eventually became Bishop Spencer Place. She was an emeritus board member. Always active in civic affairs, she was a member of the PTA’s of Bancroft Elementary, Bingham Jr. High School, Paseo and Southwest High Schools as she raised five children. She was also a member and past Regent of the Elizabeth Benton Chapter, DAR and the EX chapter, PEO. She was a member and past president of St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary. A daughter, Carol Sue, preceded her in death. In addition to her husband, survivors include her children and thier spouses, Joan Watt, KCMO, Michael W. Doubleday, Arlington, VA, Stephen J. and Michele Doubleday, San Antonio, TX, Marcia and Tony Seheult, Tampa, FL, Pamela and Thomas (Buzz) Willard, Mission Hills, KS. Also surviving are her grandchildren their families, Jeffrey and Shannon Watt, Lee’s Summit, MO and children, Taylor, Chase and Sawyer, Joseph and Jill Watt, KCMO and their children, Jacob, Joel and Jonah, Jennifer and Dennis Shaw, Cave Creek, AZ and their children, Elena and Courtney, Allison and Kevin Cloud, Olathe, KS and son, Samuel, Adam Doubleday, San Antonio, TX, Ashley Doubleday, San Antonino, TX, Joseph and Kelly Seheult, Concord, NC and their children, Lauren and Erinn, Nicole and Tony Lodato, Tampa, FL and their children, Caitlyn and Isabella, Analisa and Mark Whiteside, Tampa, FL, Carrie Willard, Philadelphia, PA, and Julia Willard, Mission Hills, KS.
