John Ross Thompson, 89, Kansas City, Missouri passed away in North Kansas City, Missouri on August 28, 2021. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at the Joplin First Church of the Nazarene, 2124 Utica St., Joplin, Missouri 64801. There will be a celebration of life following the service.
John was born in Mondamin, Iowa on November 14, 1931. He married Alfareta Marie (Kirby) on December 14, 1957. He was a loving and caring son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandpa, great-grandpa, great-great-grandpa and friend.
He was preceded in death by his wife Alfareta, parents John Ross and Ella Larada (McAdon) Thompson, grandparents Marea and Vard McAdon, grandchildren; Jack Andrew Crowe, Cheyana Marie Lynne Boonstra and great-grandson Maximo.
He leaves behind 4 children; Mary Lyn Brown, Donald (Marsha) Thompson, Joan (Rick) Evans and Joyce (David) Boonstra, as well as 16 grandchildren; Davita (Joe) Haynes, Danielle (Ryan) Abney, Matt (Yilliam) Brown, Jacque Clemens, Joey Clemens, Taylor Thompson, Donald Thompson, Shante Kilpatrick, Sabrina Speak, Cecil Evans, Natasha Evans, David Boonstra Jr., John (Chrissi) Evans, Emily (Matt) Howerton. 16 great-grandchildren; Jacob (Kaitlyn) Haynes, Alyssa (Kuan) Lin. William, Kaleb, Jonas, Rylee, Wyatt, Sophia, Liam, Serenity, Antonio, Isabella, Destiny, Mystic, Maggy, Jaidyn, Emma Lee, Edna, Reagan, and His great-great-grandchildren Ava, Henri and Cameron, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

John was a great man. My parents truly enjoyed having John and Alfareta as friends. John had a great disposition and a big smile as the picture shows. He and Alfareta made a great couple. John put a little bit of sunshine in everyone’s life. His attitude in life was contagious. He was always positive.
The world could have a few more John Ross Thompsons and be better off for it.
