Leopoldo “Leo” Berroteran, age 72, passed away on Sunday, August 4th, 2024.
Leo was born September 19th, 1951 in El Paso Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Judy and their children Angela Joslin, Bryan Newberry, David, and Scott; daughters-in-law Michelle Newberry and Sarah Berroteran; son-in-law Lance Joslin; his eight grandchildren Jazman Berroteran, Gus and Maragh (fiance Lindsey) Newberry, Reily and Sterling Berroteran, Clay, Joseph (wife Ashlynn), and Caroline Joslin; one great-grandchild Jake Joslin; his parents Ret. Lt. Col. William J. and Enriqueta Perry; four brothers Chuck Berroteran, Billy, Richard, and Philip Perry; two sisters Rebecca Woodruff (husband Thomas), and Mica Berroteran; 1 Denise, 5 nephews and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his in-laws L.B. and Ann Quinn.
Leo worked at Honeywell FM&T for 43 years, including the last 10 years as an IAMAW local lodge 778 business agent. One of his many joys in life came from his services to his union brothers and sisters and all of the help, and guidance he could provide to them.
When his sons were growing up he was involved in baseball with them. From coaching their teams to umpiring as many games he could for his community. Spending most summers at Memorial Park in Belton, MO.
Another passion of Leo’s was his time with the Boy Scouts of America. This included many leadership positions. He was most proud of his time as Scoutmaster in Troop 426, helping develop young men into future leaders. He always held in high esteem the 14 scouts who achieved the rank of Eagle during his tenure, carrying with him a memento to these young men until the end. He went on for many years helping to raise money through Friends of Scouting so that all could have the opportunity to participate in a program he believed in. His son Scott and two grandsons Reily and Sterling continue to carry on his legacy through their continued service to Scouting.
Leo was entirely authentic. His strength was in uplifting those around him. Everyone would walk away from their encounter with Leo feeling inspired. His encouragement was so purely sincere and special to each individual. Leo was a man of service. He gave everything to those he loved and a whole lot to everyone else. He served through his kindness, patience, and his objective mind. His loyalty was unmatched. If Leo was on your side, you had it all. His internal youth and humor were contagious, always looking for a smile or trying to get a laugh. All of this and all he ever asked in return was for us to listen to a few long-winded speeches. In place of flowers, please make donations in Leo’s name to the Guide Dogs of America at guidedogsofamerica.org
Private services will be held on Monday, August 12th as his family and closest friends say a last goodbye to this man we all love. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
Dear Judy and family, I am so sorry for your tremendous loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you now and always. God Bless and keep you. Eternal rest grant unto him Oh Lord and May perpetual light shine upon him. Your cousin,
So sorry for the way-to-early loss of your family patriarch, Leo. Unfortunately I never met him, which saddens me. It’s apparent the impact he had on so many lives. I do know Scott well and I can say that I’m confident he will carry on Leo’s legacy. May God bless your family during this difficult time.
Leo was a very special guy. Bob and I always loved spending time with Leo. He had the biggest heart full of love and laughter. High school football games weren’t as fun if Leo wasn’t there. I can only imagine the joyous noise in the heavenly cheering section now that Bob and Leo has joined. July sending you and the family love and prayers.
Leo was a true Unionist Brother. He was always doing his best to help his union Sisters and Brothers. He always helped me whenever I asked him. He is truely a tTrade Unionist. He sacrifices for the needs of others over his own needs.
I Love him as a Brother.
I worked with Leo for many years at Honeywell. He was a great friend to all of us. He is deeply missed,
We are so sorry to hear this! Sending you lots of love from Texas

Judy, my favorite words to Leo was Judy had better stay happy because if she’s not we are done. He has been a Leader. A humble leader but most of all a friend. He was truly a precious stone.
