Mary Diane Schiff

Mary Diane Schiff, 59, of Lillian, Alabama went home to Jesus on May 8, 2023. After a long, valiant battle with chronic illness she passed away peacefully in Columbia, Missouri while visiting her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter. Mary Diane was born to John and Jean (Brinkley) Schiff on August 25, 1963 in Evansville, IN. She was raised mostly in Southern Illinois, but traveled frequently in her later years of life, living in many different states.

She leaves behind her parents, John and Jean Schiff, her daughter, Lydia (Andrew) Yancy, one granddaughter, Leila Yancy, and brother, Gary Schiff. Diane also leaves behind her nieces and nephews Tori, Josh, Jesse and Abigail.

Diane affectionately known as Sissy, had the sweetest soul and was a light in so many lives. Her disarming smile, great sense of humor, and loving personality invited everyone in and she loved people without limits. She never met a stranger, as it was easy for her to see the good in others and she found it easy to relate to anyone about something. God, family and friends are what mattered most to Diane, and that was evident to anyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Diane struggled for many years with health issues but she was an extremely strong person, both spiritually and physically. She expressed much gratitude in her life, she believed in the power of prayer, and trusted God’s plans.

Although Diane was a gentle soul and petite in stature, her ambitious attitude was infectious and made her a jack of all trades. From driving semis across the country, working airport security, or running her own restaurant, she believed she could do anything she set her mind to. Her natural talent, (and the one she was most proud of, and attended college for) lied in working with children, whether that meant being a Sunday school teacher, a foster parent, nanny, or any position where she could treat kids as her own. She helped so many children and young adults see their potential and feel loved.

In lieu of flowers, consider doing something Diane would’ve enjoyed. Read a book that feeds your soul, make a new friend, craft something beautiful, take a drive singing (off-key) to your favorite songs, or share your faith with someone.

Diane was extremely loved, will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by family, many friends, and the countless people she had a positive impact on.

Per her wishes, Diane was cremated and will have her ashes spread in Hawaii. She did not want a memorial or any type of service.
