Melvin L. Gates, 79, of Grandview, Missouri passed away August 31, 2016. Mass services will be held at 10AM, Friday, September 9th, 2016 at Queen of the Holy Rosary, 7023 W 71st St Overland Park, Kansas 66204. Visitation will be held 9:30AM, September 9th, 2016, at Queen of the Holy Rosary. Mr. Gates was born April 20, 1937 in Coldwater, Kansas.
Melvin was a loving husband, great father, amazing grandfather, wonderful great-grandfather and good friend. He was always helping others. He knew how to embrace life and have fun. He celebrated the sun rising and the birds chirping each and every day. He will be loved and missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jesse M. Gates and Leta Gates, as well as seven older sisters.
Survivors include wife Theresa Gates, son Marty Gates, daughter Rose Shafer, 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Mike Gates.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Melvin’s name.
Rest in peace, Uncle Mel. Your cheerful smile and kindness will be missed by all. God bless Aunt Theresa, Marty, Rose and all your family.
