Michael S. Barnes

Michael S. Barnes, 67, of Jefferson City, MO passed away Friday October 31, 2025 at the VA hospital in Columbia after a long battle with cancer. He went peacefully surrounded by family.

Michael was born March 4 1958 to Gordon and Sarah (Stafford) Barnes in Jefferson City. After High school he joined the Marines where he served 3 years. While he was stationed in Japan he was proud to have climbed Mt. Fuji. Upon his return he became an electrician. He owned his own business doing electrical work until he retired. In 1985 he was united in marriage to his wife Sheri (Fesenmeyer) Barnes. They were married for 40 years and had one daughter, Mikaela (Barnes) Jones in 1993.

Michael always loved cars and racing. He built several sand rails and dune buggies and enjoyed racing 4-wheelers. He also enjoyed remote control cars and built the RC Race Barn just outside Jefferson City. He loved animals and took in multiple strays over the years and always made sure the bird feeders were full. He always had the best sense of humor and never failed to light up a room bringing smiles and laughter to everyone around him.

He is survived by his wife Sheri Barnes and his daughter Mikaela Jones (Samual) as well as his brother Steven Barnes (Alice) and Sister Sharon Schaefer (Larry) and multiple nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Sarah Barnes as well as his brothers Gordon Allen Barnes and Kevin Barnes along with his favorite dog, Zinnia.

Family and Friends will be welcomed to his celebration of life at the DAV Hall at 5054 Monticello Road, Jefferson City, MO 65109 on November 16, 2025 from 1-3 pm. The family asks that you do not bring food, snacks and beverages will be provided. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Jefferson City Animal Shelter or your local humane society.
