Raymond Farris Clevenger, 86, passed away of natural causes, August 19, 2023, at St. Joseph Medical Center.
Ray was born on April 17, 1937, in Braymer, MO, to mother, Martha Lorene Clevenger (Kelley), and father, Farris Raymond Clevenger. He joined the United States Navy in 1955, and later completed his career in the military in 1962 in the Navy Reserves.
Ray joined the Kansas City Police Department in 1958, where he began his lasting career in law-enforcement. His assignments began in the Patrol Division and then the Traffic/Motorcycle Division. He then became a detective, serving the Investigative Homicide Unit and transferred to the Chief’s Office, where he served under various Chiefs of Police. He later transferred to the Juvenile Division where he retired in 1984. After leaving the Kansas City Police Department, he began work as an Investigator for Clarence M. Kelley and Associates, Inc., for many years.
On January 4, 1962, Ray married his beloved wife, Billie Jo Clevenger (Comstock), where they shared 44 blissful years together. Ray and BJ welcomed their daughter, Julie in April 1965.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jo, and brother, Larry Sprouse; son, *RayGene Clevenger; daughter, *Robin McClelland; additionally, he is survived by his daughter, Julie Perkins (Mike); granddaughters, Alexis Smith (Dakota) and Michela Perkins; sisters, Betty Jane Bowman (Bob), Rosalie Roberts, Brenda Reeves, and brother, Rick Sprouse; sons, *Ronnie Clevenger (Sandy) and *Kerry Clevenger.

Julie,Your dad was a great friend and he will be missed.
Ray was not only a relative but a close friend to us and all our family. We have had great times for many years. His passing will leave a big void in our lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family. He will certainly be missed.
Ray and BJ were wonderful friends. We had a lot of fun together. A lot of great memories. Steve and Sherry Asbury.
Julie, I won’t say I know your pain, but I’m here if or when you need me. This goes for MT as well. We love you and yours like we’re family because that’s how we feel about you. Hopefully, Ray is with Billie Jo now and they’re picking up where they left off.

Dear Perkins family – We are sorry to hear about Ray’s passing. I will always remember Ray’s smile and his easy way of conversation. I always thought he was one heck of guy. He was proud of all his girls and he loved you dearly.
