Richard Davenport

Richard Hadley Davenport passed away at Boone Hospital Center on August 11, 2013 surrounded by family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 18, 2013, at 2:00 pm at Prairie Grove Baptist Church in Columbia, MO.

Born on June 12, 1936 to Hadley and Rosalie (Beasley) Davenport in Audrain county.  He graduated from Mexico High School and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict.

Richard was employed by MFA Oil Company for 34 years. He was a member of Prairie Grove Baptist Church and also served as Chairman of the Deacons. He enjoyed camping, his daily routine of biscuits and gravy at Hardees followed by coffee with friends at McDonald’s.  He had the trip of a lifetime being included on the Central Missouri Honor Flight #19 a year ago.

On June 19,1987 he married Charlene Wells.  He has five children and two step daughters.  Regina Cooper (Jim), Gaylen Davenport (Dawn), Renita Doyle, twin boys Roger Davenport (Carrie) and Ryan Davenport (John Competiello), step daughters, Marilyn Baker (Dan) and Kathy Karl (Eric).  He has two brothers E Fred Davenport (Brenda), Lawrence Davenport (Wanda) and a sister, Lois Polacek (Alan) of Mexico, MO.  Richard was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and stepson Michael Wells.

    Sis…we are so sorry we can’t be there with you as you go through the days ahead. Just know we carry you in our hearts and prayers and we know that you know how much we loved him and will miss him. I know this….he could make a great cup of coffee at 5:30 a.m. I will miss our talks. We are keeping all of you in our thoughts.

    Richard was a good man Charlene. I enjoyed working with him for many years. I know, too, he was a man of God. Let that be your comfort until you meet again.
