The Life Story of
Robert Eugene Brown Sr.
Robert Eugene Brown Sr. was affectionately called “Gene” by family and friends.
He was born on January 5, 1943, in Norfolk, Virginia to Gustealia Evans and Richard Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Charlesetta Gilbert.
He received his education at Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia. During his last year in high school his sister, Charlesetta, who now resided in Kansas City, MO had a daughter who was involved in a terrible accident and passed away. This caused Gene to come to Kansas City to help his sister. During his visit here he decided to make Kansas City his home.
Gene professed a belief in Jesus Christ at an early age. After moving to Kansas City, he joined Church of God and Christ on 23rd and Benton. Gene believed in reading the word of God. He was a person who never met a stranger, his zest for life brought laughter to people he met. He could get the party started; he loved all kinds of music his favorite was Blues and R&B.
Gene married Cora Dooley and to this union two children were born. Later in life he met Ira Jean Kellogg after seven years of dating they decided to get married. They were married for 39 years he was a stepfather to her four children. Gene loved his children, nieces and nephews so much, he had no favorites and loved them all equally.
Gene believed in good work ethic, he was a member of the Teamsters Union Local #41. He worked for Cable Dahmer until he retired, he was well liked by the company.
He is survived by his wife Jean Brown, 6 daughters, 3 sons, 3 stepchildren, one sister Carlethia Braxton (Louis) Norfolk, Virginia, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd. Raytown, MO 64133. Visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 1:00pm.
