Ruby Dean Johns, 80, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri passed away December 24, 2019 at Wilshire of Lakewood from Parkinson’s complications. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 27, 2019 at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, Raytown, Missouri. Mrs. Johns was born July 26, 1939 in Midland, Arkansas.
Ruby loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved her brothers, sisters and her friends. She loved very deeply, and if you were a friend or family member, you were hers for life. Ruby loved Jesus deeply and served him most of her life. Her heart’s desire was that all of her children, family members and friends would come to know the Lord. In her last few weeks at Wilshire, she continually asked people if they knew where they were going to spend eternity. It was heavy on her heart, especially recently. She actually told several tenants, staff members, and even a few family members that if the Lord didn’t heal her stomach, she knew she was going on to Heaven soon.
When Ruby wasn’t talking about the Lord, you could find her playing Bingo or Pokeno with other patrons of Wilshire. She loved winning those “Bingo Bucks” and buying gifts for her family and friends. She could also be found playing marbles with her sisters or friends. It’s funny, because she ALWAYS loved playing games, all through her life.
Ruby was preceded in death by two husbands, Gordon Hitch and Larry Johns, two children, Jerry Hitch and an unnamed baby, two grandchildren, Jeremy and Nicholas Hitch, a brother, Gene Brassfield, and both of her parents, Elmer and Dortha Brassfield.
Survivors include four children: Kathy Thomas, Darrell Hitch, Terry Hitch and Lance Hitch. Also, 23 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and two greatgreat grandchildren.
Ruby will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
I miss my momma so much. She was so gentle and so patient with me. Life is so different and so much harder with her gone… I know she’s in Heaven now with Jesus, her husbands, two babies, two grandsons, a brother, her parents, grandmother, cousin, aunt and uncles. I wouldn’t wish her back here confined to a wheelchair, fighting diseases, etc., but I sure do miss her… I love you, Momma…
