Samuel Ellsworth Clarke passed away peacefully at the age of 79 at his home in Independence, Missouri following a brief battle with cancer. Sam grew up in southern Illinois, then lived most of his adult life in the Wichita, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri areas. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving his country first stationed in France then re-enlisting and being sent to Vietnam.
He is fondly remembered for his generous nature, his traveler’s soul and his “never met a stranger” personality.
He is preceded in death by his parents Harold Clarke of Marion County, Illinois and Charlotte Webb of Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Sam is survived by his longtime love and devoted partner of 15 years, Shirley Storey of Independence, Missouri; his two daughters Michelle Clarke of Kansas City, Missouri and Dominique “Nikki” West of Wichita, Kansas; and granddaughter Kayla Clarke of North Kansas City, Missouri.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Rest In Peace my love with no pain to disturb you. Thank you for all of our adventures over the last 15 years
RIP Sam !! I remember lots of times at Mt Vernon high school and later lots of Facebook funnies !!! Sorry we never got to do the lunch with St. Louis barbecue!!
I didn’t know my classmate Sam in high school, but he reached out to me on FB after my husband of 61 years passed in July of 2021. Sam said he was an empath and I know it had to be true. On my worst days, I would receive a text or a message encouraging me. I appreciated his friendship so much and will miss the contact. Rest in peace, Sam.
Travel on to your greatest adventure.
Love you Daddy.
I went to school with him from the First grade in Franklin Grade school. He was and will always be “Sammy”. Always a smile, never met a stranger. RIP, my friend
High school years. Remember his famous line: “You better leave my woman alone” from the school operetta. Enjoyed our time in Mr. Sanford’s world history class. Enjoy your new beginning, Sam. You are remembered by many.
My deepest sympathy to Sam’s family! He was always upbeat and Mr Personality! RIP SAM??
I went to high school with Sam, and spoke with him occasionally as life progressed. My deepest sympathy to his family.
To Shirley, Michelle and Nikki,
I tried to call Sam today and when I got the message this number has been disconnected I had a bad feeling.
I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Sam in the copier industry. He was the pinnacle of a natural sales person. I will always cherish his wisdom and life experiences. He was one of the most outgoing people I have ever had the pleasure to know, He will be missed.
My condolences to you all.
