Samuel “Sam” M. Carrera

Samuel “Sam” M. Carrera, 83, passed away in Overland Park, KS on Monday, February 13, 2023, after suffering from years of dementia.

Sam was born on May 23, 1939 to Valentin Carrera and Henrietta Martinez in Durango, Mexico. After completing school Sam served in the Mexican Air Force, where he was a paratrooper.

After his service, his family moved to Kansas City, Kansas where he met Mary Irene Riojas. They married in 1964 and went on to have two children, Samuel Jr and Susan. In 1976 Sam proudly became a U.S. Citizen.

In 2003, Sam retired from Burd & Fletcher after 43 years of employment as a machinist. A few years later, moved to Kissee Mills, MO with his second wife Betty. Sam enjoyed bowling, and all things Chiefs and Royals related. In 2018 Sam was diagnosed with dementia and was moved to Overland Park, Ks where he spent his remaining years in Morningside Place Memory Care.

Sam was predeceased by his Father, Valentin, his Mother, Henrietta, his wife, Betty, and his brother, Eleazar Carrera.

He is survived by his children: Samuel Carrera Jr of Shawnee, Kansas, and Susan Riemann (Mark) of Katy, Texas; grandchildren: Natalie Carrera, Andrew, and Olivia Riemann; brother Isidro Carrera, sister Otilia Smith as well as beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

    I really like pa Sam ( that is what we all called him) And tina was so loved by him he was very proud of her and Natalie both we will all miss him rest in peace pa Sam
