With deep sorrow, we announce the sudden and untimely passing of Scotty R. Thurman II on July 20th, 2024. Born on December 13th, 1977, in Independence, MO, to Scotty Thurman and Nancy Eberle, Scotty was a proud father, a loving brother, a cherished son, and a loyal friend to many. His unexpected departure has left us all in profound shock and grief.
Scotty spent his high school years in Blue Springs, MO, before earning his GED while living in Florida. Driven by a desire to serve his community, Scotty became a volunteer firefighter. In 2008, he graduated from the police academy and soon after joined the Sugar Creek Police Department, proudly serving as a police officer until 2011.
In addition to his public service, Scotty worked in construction. He later returned full-time to this field, and in 2016, he became a union carpenter for Local 1127. His work took him across the country, and he loved sharing stories of his travels with his children and friends.
Scotty’s life was marked by his sharp wit and knack for keeping everyone on their toes. He had a unique ability to turn any situation into a laughable moment, often being the troublemaker in the room. Scotty’s mischievous spirit and constant teasing were balanced by his genuine kindness and the way he always showed up for those he loved.
Recently, Scotty discovered the joys of off-roading with his new Jeep, making several new friends on these adventures. A bit of a thrill-seeker, Scotty relished in the excitement of exploring new terrains and pushing his limits. Whether it was cracking a joke at just the right time, playfully pushing boundaries, or offering a helping hand when least expected, Scotty’s presence brought joy and a touch of chaos to everyone who knew him. His ability to find humor in any situation and his adventurous spirit made every moment spent with him memorable and full of life.
Scotty is survived by his beloved daughter Alyssa Thurman and his cherished son Ryan Thurman. He also leaves behind his father, Scotty Thurman, and his mother, Nancy Eberle; his sisters Natalie (Ken) Schwartz and Rachel (Chris) Metzdorf; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd. Raytown, MO 64133. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 2:00pm.
A celebration of Scotty’s life will be held at a later date. Rest in peace, Scotty. Your journey took you many places, but you will always be in our hearts.
My deepest condolences to you all. I am so very sorry for your loss. I love you all.
