Shirley LaVerne McAfee Maupin Brown

Shirley LaVerne McAfee Maupin Brown was born on September 2, 1938 in rural Orrick, MO, the daughter of Willis Washington and Lillith Mae (Duncan) McAfee. Shirley, 86, of Richmond MO passed away February 23, 2023 at Shirkey’s Nursing & Hospice from pulmonary failure.

On July 9, 1955 Shirley was united in marriage to Robert Dean (Bobby Dean) Maupin Sr. of Orrick, Mo. To them 3 children were born, Debra Kay, Robert Dean (Robbie) Jr. and Rickey Keith Maupin. In 1970 she married George Raymond (Jake) Brown, Sr. of Orrick, MO. To them a son was born, Jake Erin (Jakie) Brown, Jr.

She lived most of her life in the Orrick community except for 2 years in Denver, CO. She was a member of the Orrick Baptist Church for over 50 years, and a member of Missouri City/Jewell Chapter of the Eastern Star.Shirley loved spending her free time gardening, picking Rymer mushrooms, studying genealogy, and spending time with family.

Shirley is survived by: daughter, Debra Kay Henton, Richmond, MO; son, Robert Dean “Robbie” (Debra) Maupin Jr. of Lexington, MO; brother, Ricky (Peggy) McAfee of Lee’s Summit, MO; four grandchildren, James Willis Schmidt of Point Arena, CA, Samantha Arlene and David Robert Brown of Orrick, MO and Michael Shannon Bogue of Independence, MO; several nieces, great nieces and nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents Willis and Lill MacAfee, Shirley was preceded in death by: sister, Mary Beth Payne and her husband George; two sons, Ricky Keith Maupin and Jake “Jakie” Brown, Jr.; brother, Willis Keith McAfee; and grandparents, Emerson and Laurana McAfee and Rit and Ethel Duncan.

It was the family’s desire that a service of memory be held for Shirley at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the Baptist Church in Orrick, MO. Cremation with interment at South Point Cemetery in Orrick, MO.
