Susan (Sue) Oesterle

Susan (Sue) Oesterle passed away peacefully July 30, 2022, at N. Kansas City Hospital with loved ones at her side.

Sue was born May 11, 1955, in Salina Ks to Daniel and Marilyn Davis. Sue lived in many states growing up as her father’s work changed locations. It was in New Jersey that she met her loving husband Louis, fell in love and married in Aug 1973, welcoming two sons before moving to Kansas City in 1979.

Sue worked 30 years as a respiratory therapist at Liberty hospital, retiring in 2010. Sue was a compassionate person, quickly forming friendships with coworkers and patients that lasted decades. Sue was always available to friends and coworkers to listen to their problems and offer kind words of advice.

Sue saw the best in everyone she met and enthusiastically supported ideas, hobbies and dreams with optimism. Whether you were on stage in a theater production or piano recital, trying your hand at a new hobby, activity or sport, Sue was always there offering support and encouragement without a moment’s hesitation. Sue spent countless hours attending school activities, watching youth and school sports, supporting her kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews in anything and everything they did. From roller hockey, tennis, baseball, softball, basketball, soccer and golf to cheerleading, forensics and academic bowl, she learned the rules of every activity and sport and supported their teams. Sue loved being around family and friends, playing cards, board games and reading. Game shows and puzzles were her favorite as she seemed to know a little about everything. She enjoyed music ranging from REO Speedwagon and Journey to INXS.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Marilyn Davis; her older brother Daniel Jr and wife Dianne; and brother-in-law Edward Oesterle. Sue is survived by her husband of 49 years Louis; sons Louis Jr, wife Toni and their children Savannah, Cameron and Madison, Smithville, Mo; Brian and his children Esme, Genevieve and Rosalind of Wichita Ks; daughters Abra and Alexis Leavers of Kearney, Mo; brothers Larry Davis and wife Rita, Memphis, Tn; Jerry Davis and wife Linda, Rocky Mount, Va; sister Kathy (Davis) Wagner, Gladstone, Mo; brother in law Robert Oesterle and wife Nancy, Palm Bay, Fl; sister in law Patty Oesterle, Whiting, NJ and the many cousins, nephews and nieces, their children and her many friends.

The family would like to extend our sincerest thanks to the staff at NKC Hospital where Sue spent her last days, all the while receiving excellent care from all employees she encountered.

Sue was an organ donor, and her family is very pleased that her corneas were donated to someone so they would be able to see. This is something that was very important to her, and I know she is elated about this. Just another example of the wonderful person that Sue was.

It was Sue’s wish to be cremated without formal funeral services. It was a partly overcast day when Sue left this world, befitting the mood of sadness, grief and tremendous loss of all who knew her. Sue will be dearly missed.
