Thomas Fasbinder (63) passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Kansas City Hospice House with his family by his side.
Tom was born October 30, 1961, in Kansas City, MO, to Dr. Sam and Symie (Kershenbaum) Fasbinder. He was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area.
Tom graduated from Southwest High School and then attended the University of Central Missouri.
Since his youth, Tom held a passion for cars and music. He was known to often combine those passions, usually with new and improved speakers, video screens, or other unique electronic additions. In his work, Tom followed his passions of cars and music into the automotive electronics industry. Tom co-owned and operated Fastronics from 1988-2002, when he went to work for Deffenbaugh Industries. In 2008, Tom along with family, founded and operated Tronics, where he provided a mobile service for automotive electronics to the Kansas City metro area. In 2016, tom retire due to health complications. Although he could no longer work on cars, he still had a great interest and appreciation for cars, electronics, and gadgets.
Outside of cars and music, Tom also had a passion for good food, specifically barbecue. He competed in multiple events in the Kansas City area and often had friendly BBQ competitions between his brothers and other family members. While he did not always win bragging rights, it was always on opportunity to be with family, and that is what Tom loved the most. There was rarely a time that he wasn’t excited for a family visit or dinner party.
Through his health battles, Tom touched many people in the healthcare community. His multi-weekly trips to the dialysis center introduced him to a variety of new friends over the years, including healthcare workers as well as other patients.
Tom married Ruby Ingalls on May 24, 2008. With their union, Tom expanded his family to include sons, Bill and Ken, a daughter-in-law Darla, and two granddaughters, Kelsi and Allyson. Tom’s highest priority was his family and friends.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Ruby Fasbinder, sons Bill Irwin and Ken Irwin, daughter-in-law, Darla Irwin, granddaughters Kelsi (fiancé, Austin) Lawrence and Allyson (Jonathan) Trinidad, brothers John (Cherie) Fasbinder and Paul (Sheila) Fasbinder, sister-in-law Lauren Fasbinder, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Joan (Haycraft) Lee, and brother, Mark Fasbinder.
A Celebration of Life will be held March 30, 2025 from 2pm – 4pm at Church of Resurrection, 8412 W. 95th Street, Overland Park, KS 66212.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Pet Resource Center of Kansas City or Catch-a-Ride program through Johnson County Aging & Human Services, Johnson County, Kansas.
Tom’s love, laughter, jokes, and willingness to open his home to others will never be forgotten. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Although I never met Tom, I know he was a huge part of your heart. I know you miss him and especially the good times you were able to have before his health complications. From what you shared, he was a bright light in this world! Please accept my condolences in his passing.
Tom was a phenomenal person, deeply loved by all of us. We pray your good memories give you strength in this loss. We love you!
Tom was a high school friend that was interested in cars as I was. I later met his brother John. Tom was a fantastic human being and will be sorely missed.
Tom was always friendly and always fun to be around in school! R.I.P Friend!
Tom was one of my dearest friends for over 20 years. In fact we were roommates for a couple of years before I relocated for family.
We talked frequently and I miss those times already.
Ruby was the light of his life and he loved her wholeheartedly.
Fly with the angels, my brother from another mudder. I love and miss you.
God bless
Tom was always me go to guy when I needed radio changes in my car inventory. I really enjoyed conversations about what’s coming next
Tom loved to watch John Wick movies. We went to one, watched one at his house, and had planned on watching the 4th one, but never got the chance. Both Tom and I loved Long John Silvers restaurant, and whenever we visited had to go there at least once. Tom was always fun to talk to and had a quirky sense of humor like me. He will be missed.
I’m sorry I never had the opportunity to meet Tom, but he sounds like a resilient, devoted friendly guy. Your love and care for him is so evident Ruby. May your memories bring a sense of joy and contentment. My deepest condolences to all.
I will miss my cousin, his friendliness and warmth… and of course his BBQ!
Oh Ruby, I’m so sorry to hear this. Our prayers will be with you and your family.
