Walter E Farnsworth

Walter E. Farnsworth, 92 years, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at the Santa Marta Retirement Community in Olathe, KS, where he had happily spent his last 8 years. Walt requested no services, but everyone who was lucky enough to know and love him is encouraged to celebrate his life, each in their own way.

Walt was born March 23, 1925 in Kansas City, MO. He was a wonderful son, joining the Navy, where he was a hard-hat diver in WW2, so he could provide financial help to his mother and grandmother. He was married to his wife, Marlin, for 62 years, before her death in 2009.
Walt was an extraordinary dad to his two children, Debby Hugo (Marty) of Lenexa, KS and Tom Farnsworth (Peggy) of Raytown, and a loving grandpa to his only grandchild, Adam Hugo (Tiffany Lovett) of Lenexa, KS.

Walt worked at Southwestern Bell/AT&T for almost 40 years. He began as a lineman/phone installer and was promoted to PBX switchboard installer. He loved meeting people. He loved his fishing trips to Canada with co-workers.

We have lost a beautiful ray of sunshine. Walt was an optimist. He appreciated all the little things life offers, and never let anything get him down. Walt loved people, he loved life, and he passed on that positive energy to everyone he met. He was always thinking of others. He was very happy at Santa Marta, where he was loved.
In spite of his physical limitations and serious medical conditions, he enjoyed playing Skipbo, Bingo, Bridge, puzzles, Wii Bowling and Netflix. Walt remained mentally sharp until his death.
Walt made our lives so happy. We loved him so much. We will miss him terribly. It was an honor to have him in our lives.
