Matthew Roy Backhus, age 36 of Kansas City MO passed away on May 26th 2024.

Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm at Heartland Cremation and Burial Society, Raytown MO. Visitation is from 2:00pm – 3:00pm, service follows.

Matthew was born on August 22nd,1987 in Kansas City, MO. Matt was a kind soul who would do anything for anybody. He loved his family, baseball, music, animals, plants and nature. He had an infectious smile with a dimple that you noticed first thing. Matthew was funny and smart.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, George and Patricia Salsig and his paternal grandparents, Richard and Sharon Backhus.

Survivors include: daughter, Rylynne Backhus; mother, Pamela Tapp (Scott Smith); father, Troy Backhus (Shannon Backhus); fiance, Danielle Mackey (step children, Maddie and Rj); sisters, Mendi Backhus (Tyler Beck), Haley Backhus (Antonio Perez), Hannah Backhus-Greenberg (Harrison Greenberg) and Dakota Williams; brothers, Taylor Tapp and Caleb Alberts (Shawna Valentine); niece, Joslynne Mendoza and nephew, Roman Beck; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

    The sky wears hues of gray for you right now; I hope the clouds part soon. Matthew was certainly held high rank on many peoples “lists” from their go to best pal or their tried and true. He knew how laugh and he knew how stand tall, face fears. Matt even climbed to tippy top of many others too. He became a number one dad and to his sweetheart he became her absolute champion. Sometimes we leave this world with much left to live love and learn but I feel Matthew probably did accomplish a good great number of the things that he’d perhaps marked on to his own list.

    Although I had only met this fine young man few months ago, very likeable man, intelligent wonderful personality, that you couldn’t help but like Matt when you met him, will meet again, truly one of a kind friend and man, my thoughts and prayers are with family in time of need, rest in peace my friend…
